Your options in Santa Fe, NM
There are effective treatments for many gum problems and early stage gum disease that don't involve surgery. These non-surgical periodontal therapy treatments include:
Biolase laser therapy
Thanks to Biolase laser dentistry, we can often get you in and out of the chair faster. Dr. Rusanowski performs periodontal procedures such as bone smoothing and soft tissue re-shaping.
Scaling and root planing
Some patients need deep cleaning to remove plaque and tartar from above and below the gum line. This involves scraping away the plaque and tartar in a process called scaling. We then smooth any rough spots on the tooth root in a process called planing. This removes bacteria and provides a clean surface for the gums to reattach to the teeth.
Oral hygiene and maintenance
During a typical checkup, we will remove the plaque and tartar from your teeth that can only be removed with professional cleaning above and below the gum line. If you have signs of gum disease, we may recommend professional oral hygiene dental cleanings more than twice per year.
Periodontal pathogen testing
Dr. Rusanowski tests for periodontal pathogens or periodontal disease such as gingivitis and periodontitis. His goal is to identify gum disease early and provide periodontal disease treatment before it causes tooth loss. Gum disease is the primary cause of tooth loss in patients of all ages.
Oral conscious sedation
Patients who experience anxiety or fear about dental procedures will be happy to know that Dr. Rusanowski uses oral conscious sedation to relax you and make you feel comfortable with even the most complex periodontal disease procedures. The goal is to provide you with an anxiety-free, pain-free experience.
